It Starts With A Word

Christians should not move out without hearing a word from God. Our biblical examples have people of God hearing from Him as they are called out to do ministry. Joshua was grieving Moses’ death when God said to him: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you & all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel” (Joshua 1:2).
Throughout Joshua’s call, God spoke with him through Moses. He was encouraged to be strong about his call & courageous, but he was also encouraged to embrace the Book of the Law (Pentateuch). Joshua was promised prosperity and victory if he would remain faithful to digesting God’s Word by meditating on it day and night, and obeying it. Have things changed in the NT era? Is God’s encouragement to Joshua relevant for saints in out era? Although the text is Joshua 1:1-9, the key for Joshua and for us is found in Ps 119:15-16 “I will meditate on Your precepts & fix my eyes on Your ways. I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your Word.”
