Eph 2:4-5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved.”
Jer 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, & desperately sick; who can understand it?”
Ps 51:5 “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, & in sin did my mother conceive me.”
1 John 1:8 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, & the truth is not in us.”
Luke 11:13 “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Titus 3:3-8 “For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions & pleasures, passing our days in malice & envy, hated by others & hating one another. But when the goodness & loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration & renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
Rom 3:10-12 “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
“…all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23).
Eph 2:1 “And you were dead in the trespasses & sins.”
Ps 58:3 “The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.”
Isa 64:6 “We have all become like one who is unclean, & all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, & our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, & you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem & in all Judea & Samaria, & to the end of the earth.”
John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
The condition of mankind is totally depraved. As a result of the original fall of man (Gen 3:6), every part of man (mind, will, emotions, & flesh) is corrupted. Sin affects humans at the core; it affects who we are & what we do. There is no hope outside of the redeeming grace of God. There were only 2 persons, prior to Christ, that walked in perfection & without any corruption (Adam & Eve). Once they sinned, their perfection died & their entire being became depraved. Every seed from them moving forward was also tainted & corrupted. Since the first couple on earth fell, there has never been a single person outside of Christ who was considered by God as righteous
Human beings after Adam are born into sin. We are born guilty & deserve divine punishment because we come from Adam. We were guilty of sin at conception. No one born under these conditions could ever claim to be righteous apart from Christ. The term Righteousness actually means absolute moral perfection. Humans are disqualified from righteousness due to our lineage. Eph 2:1 “And you were dead in the trespasses & sins.” It is critical that we understand the doctrine of Total Depravity because unless we understand this, we can never fully understand the doctrine of redemption. This sermom addresses mankinds condition, & God’s answer to all who are in Christ.
