In 1979 a French philosopher wrote a book and made a statement regarding the metanarrative, which is a statement regarding what the postmodern world believed about a larger story (or God’s biblical story). The man was Jean-Francois Lyotard, and the statement was: “Simplifying to the extreme, I define postmodern as incredulity toward metanarrative.” This sermon chops up that statement and gives a better understanding of what this twentieth century philosopher is actually saying. Also, the message addresses this “Lyotard spirit,” which goes way back into eternity, and winds up in the Garden of Eden, and on into this current time.
